One of Us Is Next(One of Us is Lying #2)by Karen M. McManus, #38 review

Publication date : 7 January 2020

The highly anticipated sequel to the New York Times bestselling thriller everyone is talking about, One of Us Is Lying! There’s a new mystery to solve at Bayview High, and there’s a whole new set of rules.

Come on, Bayview, you know you’ve missed this.

A ton of copycat gossip apps have popped up since Simon died, but in the year since the Bayview four were cleared of his shocking death, no one’s been able to fill the gossip void quite like he could. The problem is no one has the facts.

Until now.

This time it’s not an app, though—it’s a game.

Truth or Dare.

Phoebe’s the first target. If you choose not to play, it’s a truth. And hers is dark.

Then comes Maeve and she should know better—always choose the dare.

But by the time Knox is about to be tagged, things have gotten dangerous. The dares have become deadly, and if Maeve learned anything from Bronwyn last year, it’s that they can’t count on the police for help. Or protection.

Simon’s gone, but someone’s determined to keep his legacy at Bayview High alive. And this time, there’s a whole new set of rules.

In this thrilling sequel, we get to see some of the characters from the first book and new characters mingle in Bayview. This time, with a new game that caught the attention of students – Truth or Dare. You choose a Dare if you don’t want your secret to be exposed, you choose Truth if you don’t want to do a dare. It is a new board with new players and a new set of rules that got Bayview High back in the game again until… someone accepts a Dare that is too costly.

In this book, we get to see Maeve, Bronwyn’s sister have her own point of view and others too that will be introduced in the book. This book is a mixture of emotions and mystery but more on the sentiments because we get to dive into the background of these characters more and learn their stories from the past which affects them in the current setting in the story, it is a big enigma. We also get to see more locations of Bayview and the local town’s to go restaurant where a lot of scenes are written – Epoch Coffee. Addy makes the restaurant’s signature Alfajors cookies there.

Alfajors I made

The gang spends a lot of time at Epoch Coffee so we get to see how the community interacts too. Oh, and Maeve is a coffee addict, 100% in love with her.

The journey of discovering the truth of who is behind the game was interesting to read, it gave me a lot of self-satisfaction to watch how all their stories came together to find out the person who controls the game. One of Us is Next also tells the story about sisterly love and how old conflicts should be resolved in a proper way or the consequences will jump on you when you least expect it.

Thank you to @times.reads for providing me with a review copy. you can get this sequel in all bookstores now. Happy reading and thanks for checking out my review.
